In addition, our orthopedics clinic, Colorado Advanced Orthopedics, has received the Healthgrades 2024 Joint Replacement Excellence Award™. Our team of board-certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeons at CAO have been delivering patient outcomes that exceed industry standards since the clinic opened in 2020, and this award reflects our ongoing commitment to raise the bar for healthcare along the Western Slope.
Each year, Healthgrades recognizes the top hospitals nationwide that provide an exceptional experience for their patients during their hospital stay. As a recipient of this award, PMC ranks among the top 15% of hospitals in the nation across ten patient experience metrics.
Healthgrades evaluated over 2,500 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data is obtained through a questionnaire sent to a random sample of hospital patients between two days and six weeks after discharge. The survey allows Healthgrades to achieve objective, meaningful comparisons based on patients’ perspectives on the care they received during their hospital stay.

Healthgrades would then compare the ratings for each hospital on these ten metrics with the national average of patients who responding for each category. To be eligible for the Outstanding Patient Experience Award, hospitals must score in the top 80% for clinical quality and have at least 100 HCAHPS surveys returned. The top 15% of hospitals receiving the highest scores in their category received the award. There are four categories based on bed count and the number of conditions and procedures evaluated by Healthgrades.
The Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award was given to 152 hospitals, recognizing the top 10% of orthopedics clinics in the country for their work in this area of specialization. To determine the recipients of the award, Healthgrades evaluated clinical patient outcomes based on patient complication rates for total knee replacement and total hip replacement surgeries.
Patients undergoing joint replacement procedures at hospitals receiving the Joint Replacement Excellence Award had a 38% lower risk, on average, of developing a complication than if they were treated at hospitals that didn’t earn this prestigious honor.
