Our robust array of service options ensures our patients have a convenient, skilled, and safe resource to provide them with the assistance they need for:

Our physical therapy specialists are experienced with various techniques, including joint mobilization, joint manipulation, dry needling, and many other therapeutic modalities.

What Is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy consists of a variety of treatments performed to improve function and mobility and to alleviate pain. In some instances, physical therapy may be performed as part of a preventive care regimen. However, it is most commonly prescribed for individuals undergoing rehabilitation after surgery, an injury or the development of a chronic, debilitative condition. The goal of physical therapy is to help restore your quality of life and prevent additional injuries in the future.

Common reasons why you may undergo physical therapy include:

  • Relief of pain
  • Improve movement or function
  • Facilitate recovery after a sports injury
  • Treat an injury in a conservative manner to avoid surgery
  • Rehabilitation after an injury, accident, or surgery
  • Manage chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease or diabetes
  • Adapt to an artificial limb
  • Learn to use assistive devices such as a walker

Therapeutic Care Services at Pioneers Medical Center

Our physical therapy clinics offer comprehensive therapeutic services, including:

  • Orthopedic physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Sports physical therapy and rehab

Our physical therapists stay abreast of current treatment methods through continuing education and publications within their disciplines. Regardless of where the surgical care was performed, an injury occurred or your primary physician resides, ongoing therapeutic care is available at our physical therapy clinics.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation utilizes a variety of modalities to relieve joint pressure, reduce inflammation and improve nerve function. Techniques involved in this treatment include massage, manual moving of joints, and exercise. Common regions treated include the back, neck, and shoulders. In addition, spinal manipulation can be used to alleviate headache pain.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment performed on muscle tissue to reduce pain and restore function. Thin needles are inserted into the skin at strategic underlying muscular trigger points to create a release that increases blood flow, decreases tightness in muscle fibers, and reduces the localized pain. In most instances, dry needling is used in conjunction with other physical therapy treatments to achieve more effective results. It is used to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal issues.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a technique that utilizes a variety of handheld instruments to break down scar tissue in muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. It is similar to massage, but handheld tools are used instead of hands to relieve stiffness and improve range of motion. The goal of this manual physical therapy treatment is to restore your muscle function to optimal levels.

Scientific Therapeutic Exercise Progression (STEP)

Scientific therapeutic exercise progression (STEP) is performed to achieve a faster recovery after an injury and reduce the risk of reinjury. Specific exercises are prescribed to target the desired treatment region. By being deliberate with the type, volume, and frequency of the exercise, you can achieve a progression that facilitates steady improvement while building up muscles, tendons and nerves in a way that minimizes future injury.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on reducing the impact of disability by promoting independence and participation in valued activities. Our Occupational Therapy Department specializes in a wide range of treatments, including:

  • Cognition – Therapeutic interventions that focus on cognitive function (attention, memory, reasoning, executive function, problem-solving, and/or pragmatic functioning) and compensatory strategies to manage the performance of an activity, such as managing time or schedules, and initiating, organizing and sequencing tasks.
  • Low Vision – Teaching the use of adaptive equipment, modifying tasks and activities to compensate for decreased vision, and in some cases, rehabilitating the muscles of the eyes to work together.
  • Hand Therapy – Complete hand therapy rehabilitation services following injury, surgery or disease.
  • Breast Cancer Rehab – Managing and reducing edema and pain associated with breast cancer surgery, including mastectomy and biopsies. Improving arm range of motion and increasing strength and endurance throughout breast cancer treatments.
  • Pediatric Interventions – Full spectrum of interventions to help babies and children reach all of their milestones using sensory, physical, emotional and cognitive treatments.

If you or a loved one is experiencing an inability to participate in everyday tasks or activities, our occupational therapists are here to help restore function.
